André & Parietas

Alfred André was the head of a local Avignon gang who offered his services to the Gehemmme Feld Polizei (Secret Military Police). His role: intelligence about the Resistance. After his operator, lieutenant Rupp, told him that he would receive no salary and would have to manage on his own, he understood it as a license to organize targeted arrests of richer Jews for extortion and deportation. He delivered the Jews to the SiPo-SD and later worked with Charles Palmieri during his roundups in Vaucluse. For a while (November 1943 - February 1944), the GFP appointed Georges Parietas, an experienced collaborator from Paris, as Alfred André’s boss.
